ASPHALT SHINGLE ROOF PLANNER

From roof geometry to the complete roofing-system order.

Calculate pitch-adjusted roof area or use a measured surface area, then round field shingles, underlayment, starter, ridge/hip cap, drip edge, ice-and-water and nails to whole purchasable packages. Check inventory, budget, or two complete product systems.

PROJECT SETUP

Build the complete roof takeoff

1 · ROOF AREA

Use footprint + pitch or a measured surface area

For complex roofs, a measured roof surface area is usually more reliable than a simple footprint model.

2 · EDGES & PROTECTED AREAS
3 · PRODUCT COVERAGE & PRICES

WHY THIS PLANNER IS DIFFERENT

It prices the roof as a system, not just bundles.

Strong shingle calculators already handle pitch, bundles and common accessories. This planner adds complete inventory, complete-budget coverage and whole-system comparison where every supplier package size is recalculated against the same roof.

HOW THE MATH WORKS

How the roofing estimate is built

1

Convert footprint dimensions and roof pitch into roof-surface area, or use a directly measured roof area.

2

Apply field-shingle waste, then calculate each accessory from its own entered coverage or linear length.

3

Round shingles, underlayment, starter, ridge cap, drip edge, ice barrier and nails to whole packages.

Worked example

the deterministic test case uses a 40 × 30 ft building, 1 ft overhang, 6:12 pitch and 10% shingle waste. The resulting order is 50 field-shingle bundles, 2 underlayment rolls, 2 starter bundles, 2 ridge-cap bundles, 15 drip-edge pieces, 2 ice-barrier rolls and 1 nail box.

The example above is tied to this planner’s deterministic regression test. Change the inputs in the planner for your project, and verify product labels, local requirements and supplier terms before ordering.
